patience Jedi. I don't think you will see 100 (yet) but something more than HD6000. It would have to be set up on a console. I don't think you could run a tiller style with that many ponies.

I think that was the same boat that was at mudfest last year. 70+ in the shallows from what I heard.

They're all hand-built in S.LA... Centerville, LA to be specific.

Have you guys ever seen what the local;s run in Thailand? I have seen tiller steer, long tail big block Chevy V-8's that just haul azz on a wood 25 ft. boat.

Why didn't anybody continue with development of the Harley engine on mud motors? I know the longtail that was out a few years back, was a nightmare to run, but on a short tail, that might have been doable, especially with remote (hydraulic) steering. Or maybe one of the new Buell engines (made by Rotax)? 92 & 102HP, not all that heavy (considering the HP numbers), purpose built for high HP & torque (not hopped up with a bunch of aftermarket parts), much higher peak rpms, reliable, and best of all, a 24 month, unlimited mileage warranty! Imagine the prop you could spin with one of those engines! Count me in, if that ever becomes reality! |

The Harley engines with their 45 degree cylinder spacing are inherently shakers. Most of The Faithful who buy them as motorcycle powerplants know this and love them that way.( to each his own ) To others it is a fashion statement/status symbol and they could care less as long as it will crank and run and they can afford to pay someone else to change the oil in it. But, I digress, if you put one on a MM it would beat the crap out of the drivetrain and the boat itself. One could build in counterbalancers or some kind of funky isolation type engine mounts, but who needs or wants the extra weight and complexity (extra cost ). The Briggs engines have their cylinders spaced at 90 degrees which allows them to have perfect primary balance (smooth). This configuration is also used by Ducati, Suzuki and Honda for their Large displacement V-twins, Maybe one of these 100 + Hp twins could be adapted to MM use.

I'm anxious to see what Mud Buddy will have for the larger motors.

From what I've seen and heard a Harley has a hard time running or starting when it's 40 degrees outside, let alone below zero.

| I brought mine up here to GA with me while assigned here. It was 27 the other day and fired right up! Little cold on the ride in....ok a lot cold! The newer engines don't shake like the older ones as they have a balanced crank. My buddies softail has rigid mounts and his hardly shakes at all!

The golf cart folks have some V-twins in teh 90 HP range. The big problem is longevity. You can make all the horsepower and torque you want for a short time. Kinda like Nascar engines...they go real fast for a few hundred miles and then they become anchors. If you want an anchor I'm sure you can have one. Glenn is taking the right approach by increasing horsepower and torque incrementally to determine what combination works best for longevity of the power plant based on the abuse everyone puts on these motors. |
