thank you
Last 3 new ones I've worked on had 40/47. My 2011 had 38/46.
thanks I got mine about two months ago. all the charts I've found are different. I guess they aren't updated and I haven't had time to open it up and look. would a 38 46 give me more top end?
The 1854 f4 that had 40/47 would run about 2-3 mph Faster. Than a 38/46. f4. So yes it will run a little better on top end. But if your boat is heavy. Its going to kill your getting on plane time. especially with any kind of load. You will watch your speeds fall faster because it can't build rpms as you add any weight to the rig. What kind of boat you running?
its not the best but its what I got. 1648 tracker grizzly
Biggest thing for you is going to be getting your drive angle correct. Hopefully your transom isn't more than 20" but out should move good as long as all is well.
its 20 inches. what do you mean by drive angle?
If your transom is 20 you will be ok. Allot of times mod v hulls have like a 21 or 22. The best height I've found is around 19.5-20" on a tall mb. The drive angle that I'm talking about is the angle your prop its on when you are on step. These motors like to be as flat as possible so they are pushing straight forward not up on a big angle.
I got Ya. thanks for the information!
No problem Buddy. I just hate to see people make the same mistakes I've made. Which seems like every possible one lol.
Your tracker will get on step quickly and have great top end. I have the same boat for now anyway. I run a 35mb 36" outdrive with duals and a single mikuni carb 36 top gear 50 bottom. In the skinny stuff 32mph two guys and coolers with gear. But she don't turn for shiat at high speeds in skinny water. Slides like it's on ice bro so be damn carefull. Back off on the throttle a bit as you start into the turn, as it takes a set into the water, grab a handfull of throttle when it starts to hook up. Don't hit it and hold it through tight turns in skinny water.....................you'll crash as sure as i'm writing this reply.
I'm looking for a replacement right now. Gator trax with round chine and hunt deck or excel triple chine with the rear deck. Hold on your in for a fast ride. I could pull away fairly steady on a 45 bd two weekends ago. Don't ask me why but it happend with witnesses. I couldn't believe it either.
Have fun. Hang on.

4350-4480 with a brand new BB. I bump the limiter now and again I just gotta watch how I trim it up. I've got a 4530 or 4550 rev limiter on it. Why does that surprise you on the speeds?

Not sure Boomer I don't own an excel. I can only speak from a tracker perspective. But just from what i've done, seen and read, you should be smokin right along, that I know. I drove a 5500 bamf 2 weekends ago in a 1750 excel with the rear deck and it ran great and handled like a dream cut the corners nice too. Now it was in deep water but the guy who owns it is a friend of mine and I ran it over to the launch for him after a quick ride of course! I had to get her up to speed to see what she would do. I think from everything i've seen you will not be disappointed bro.......
He loves his, it has twin 38mm mikunis does your have duals too or do all 5500 bamf have duals. He was thinking he would like to switch over to a single after duck season...

Think he was referring to quackers post.
After looking at pictures of my buddy boat is is a bd 5500. He told me it had twin 38mm. To be honest I didn't look at them that close. I know they are not the hsr carbs. They look like the mikuni carbs I had on all my Moto cross bikes. Sorry to make your reading sad 270! LOL But I tend to think one thing and type something entirely different?? Well I guess you could call my pecking typing?
Odass your boat is 18' long and weights a bunch more than my tracker which is why I probably am getting the sppeds I am. To be honest I would give up a few mph to have a boat I could turn @ wide open speeds in the slop.

Boomer I read in a earlier post they ran a 7000 on that boat and got 38 with 2 ppl and light gear, so you may b around the 35 range
my boat runs 30 at 4400 bd5500 with a crossover with no load in deep water. it has some seriously bad hooks under it which ill fix this week. your are right it want turn for crap at speed. some say its too small but in the timber around here you dont want a 18foot boat.
I have no idea seen the post lil while back, but they did have a pic of the 1645 f4 with the 7000 on it. The pic was almost at the bottom of the post.
The 1645 runs great with the 7000 and three guys, but the boat is rated for 35. It ran a little over 38 with two people and a slight chop.
It is a very stable boat and it will turn on a dime. Only one other boat on the market that will do that - gator trax. That was from Glen in a post title was any body running a excel 1646
