I'm about as mechanically gifted as a Texas tree stump. I'm the guy you show once and has it down but learn myself.... aint gonna happen without an expensive lesson.:damm: My question is - does my 35 HyperSport have an alternator in it big enough to build back up the juice? Easy on the mechanic jokes, I'm a fireman...we break things, not fix'em. |

If your running WOT your motor will charge your battery back up. It does have a stator, it charges more the higher the RPM's. Just remember if you have an electric clutch it is going to be drawing juice too, but not drawing it down at high RPM's(3200+). If you have a volt meter you can put it on your battery and run your motor up and see for yourself how much your motor is charging at what RPM's.

Got this from the Boat Dr: If you hook up a volt meter anywhere you have pos and neg, the charge circut starts to put out about 2000 rpm and increases voltage (and amperage of course) as you raise the rpm's up to about 3200 and then it is a constant 14.2-14.6 volts at 20 amps.

| It actually starts charging at about 2000 rpms, but increases output at higher rpms. What kind of battery are you using, Cranking or Deep Cycle or Dual Purpose? What you have to be careful of is over using your spotlight while the motor is running @ less than 2000 rpms. Best thing to do is have a spare, light weight battery that you can use just in case you don't have enough juice to start your motor.

| If you're looking for a bargain, try Harbor Freight @ Parmer Ln & Mopac. Or Tool Traders on Grand Avenue in Pflugerville just east of 35. I keep 2 deep cycle batts in my rig. One for the motor and one for accessories, but I need the weight up front in my SS, you probably don't have the same issue in your Hide.

I want to put an onboard charger on to make it easier to charge both front and rear batts. Thought about making an aluminum box below grab bar, putting charger on one side with the plug easily accessed and battery gauge on the other...any thoughts or know of someone that's done this? Not to much room for elec. gadgets in the Hide, with all the sleeping room and all.:017: | |
