Any of you guys come up with a neat idea to store the push poles where they can be kept out of the way? Right now I just have them laying in the bottom along the edge of the floor panel. I'd like to come up with a way to install some clips or velcro straps to keep them contained while I'm running.

A quick fix is house wire ( the stuff you eclectic in you home run on) It is stiff and can twist to the two gunnel supports and hold your push pole in place

I took 2 pieces of aluminum and bent them like the letter C. I bolted them to the top of the boat under the gunnell with the open end facing the inside of the boat. I then drilled holes in each of them on the open end side. place your push pole into the holder and use d clips in the holes to hold it in. The clips i used are like the pins in a quick set blind. this works really good it keeps the pole off the floor and out of the way. Hope this works Spoonylove |

Thanks for the tips. I had someone else show me a bracket they made from using PVC in the same manner that Spoonylove described. The only difference was that he used no clips. The PVC used was the perfect size for his push pole and flexed enough for the pole to pop into place. Looked pretty sweet other than having to deal with painting the white PVC every so often.

I use an ash pole for pushing and bought some gun clips for a pickup rear window. Then i mounted them on the supports in the center of the boat. I have the island box and usually run with it in the longitudinal direction so its easy to stow them.

I have an old back window gun rack bolted in the side of my piroque, it holds an oar, a pushpole and my shotgun real well....

I picked up the avery collapsable pole. It will fit in the gun box with the foot attached. It's a little heavier, but stores better. I've heard folks say they don't hold up, but I've been pretty hard on mine and it's haning in there so far.

Browning, I have the Avery pole and it stay collapsed ever since I got mud in it. It won't open up now and despite attempts to bang it out it is wedged. I ended up getting an old fashioned ash pole. It works without any problems but it doesn't collapse so I have to store it in the open. |

Can Killer, Thanks for the heads up. I haven't had this happen yet, but now that I know I'll make sure I try to keep the mud out of it. |

I had it happen to the octagon shaped one. I've heard the round ones may not have the same problem. I just made the decision to go back to my youthful days when I pushpoled a skiff around. I would like to find one of the ones tha GT shows on their redfish rigs. But then I'd have to trailer my boat to Texas for some of those fish as well...

if you have the mugbuddy gator trax with the padded seat on the gun box you can run the pole down the side between the gunnel and the padding all the way to the transom, you have to move it to get in the gun box though.

I just picked up my new Gator Trax boat Monday and that was the perfect place for the poles. They stayed in place all the way back to Illinois. 658 miles. |

We are working with a manufacturer of rubber clamps...he is just coming to market with some pole holders. I am installing two on my new GT to hold the pushpole. Because of gun boxes going down both sides I will be mounting on top of the gunwale. Sounds screwy, but isn't. When my partner gets back in town with his digi cam, we'll post some pics.

There is a fly fishing store where I live where I bought some fiberglass composite C looking mounts with holes and clips for bunge retainers. They weren't cheap, like $40 but I had a expensive fiberglass push pole I used in my last boat. Any flats fishing outfit should carry them.
