Mud Buddy has partnered with Mercury Marine to deliver our customers the best mud motor props money can buy. Our new blades are highly efficient multiple use props that deliver more power to the water. The new Mud Buddy Tiger props are made from the new X7 propeller stainless steel. This new patent pending alloy is used on off-shore mid-size cruisers and is well known for its strength. Most mud motor props are Rockwell 30 to 34. Our new blades are 39 to 41. The new Tiger Big Blade is 12.25 diameter by 10.5 pitch. The blades are 30% thicker than the traditional short tail Tiger and the cup has been moved to the backside of the blade where it resists wear and damage. The Tiger Big Blade, although larger than our standard short tail propeller is more efficient and you can expect similar engine RPMs, but higher speeds and better traction in the mud. In short, the Tiger Big Blade is Mud Buddy's newest performance product for mud motors. The new Tiger Big Blade is priced at $240. Many Mud Buddy dealers will have the Tiger Big Blade in stock by mid October. Customers can order the Big Blade from Mud Buddy today and orders will be filled off the waiting list. Looks like the same hardness as the original tiger to me. The announcement doesn't really say they are harder than the old props, just thicker and made of a new stainless that I assume is supposed to be tougher than the old tiger stainless.

39 to 41 has always been our standard. The industry standard and some of our small longtail blades are 34. The new X7 alloy is stronger and resists wear better according to Merc engineers. The Tiger 11 X 10 is .095 thick at the tip edge. The Tiger Big Blade is .150. The Tiger Big Blade traileing edge cup is a whopping .176 thick, nearly 3/16" of blade. Is there a Rockwell hardness that is too high? Just a technical question? My take is it isn't the only measure of durability. Glenn has addressed the remainders through thickness and steel manufacture (trade secret). The Rockwell hardness is only one of the important measures and just like horsepower vs. torque we often get hung up on one indicator. Sounds like you've got a real overall advantage in the new prop. Will gear changes be needed to keep the RPM up? (by the by, Glenn, thanks for the 36's. I'm sure they will be just the ticket! Your customer service is amazingly great! Justin does a good job putting up with us and needs to know it!) |
