Hi Glen
Can you write something about the new scag and cavatation plate. I bought a 35 Vanguard sport from you last year. I was wondering why you made the changes. Is this a change I should be looking at to make my boat run better?

If you run in conditions where cavitation is an issue, it will help a bunch, especially in deep mud and weedy areas.

For many of us, the extra metal doesn't help and we leave it off.

where I run the bottom is hard with thick heavy grass and dose not allow the motor to dig into soft mud to get a hold in shallow water. I have a hard time getting going when i get down to around 8 inches of water or less. would the cavitation plate help out in this situation and is it a bolt on addition to the 35 hyper sport.

Thanks

It is a bolt on option, but if you have a hard bottom the cav plate is not going to help since you still will not be able to dig the prop down for a good bit. It will help in veggies to keep the water around the prop. It does not hurt top end at all so it it could only help. It has some advanages. I like mine because it keeps the prop covered from the dog getting in and out of the boat. If you ever get stuck in the mud and don't have it on your motor you will be able to tell a difference. I got stuck out with Sandman and he had his cav plate on and he got out with out getting out of the boat, I had to get out and push ALOT. It has it's place, mud and thick veggies.

I ordered my motor with it and it cost an additional $90. Might be a little difference but it will be close.

Powder coated to match, what size prop you running? Don't know cost off the top of my head, but you can call MB and they can hook you up.

I just bought a 35 hunter and ordered the cavitation plate too. It came in a separate box and bolted on. had to remove the clutch cover to get at the nuts though. I like it. It is powder coated to match. just like granimals.

I'm running the 12.25 big blade that came on the motor. I have it on a 1650 xpress duck boat, runs about 3800 rpm. Sounds the cavitation plate will help me in my situation. Think I'll make an order.

Where can I see a pic of the cavitation plate? Will it go on a 29 van balanced hyper? How much from MB?

The cavitation plate (anti-cavitation) does help boats that are in mud and vegetation and blow out due to air introduction on the top side of the prop.

It does help most boats in these conditions, however, we are having some difficulty with the cav plate on the Gator Hide at higher elevations where we loose engine power. Just when we are about to get on step, air slips under the cav plate and causes us to spin out.

Not sure why, but it might have something to do with the fact that the Hide tends to draft very little water and raises the prop too high, too quickly. All I know is that once the cav plate is removed we get on step quicker on this model.

I need to get the brace without the cav plate for my 3 man hide. Seems to me the plate keeps water from the inverted V caused from the wake of the hell from being able to roll back into/onto the prop to feed it.

So is the cavitation issue on the hide unique to that hull or will it also react the same way on all hunt deck models? I'd like it on my next motor, but it will be mounted on a hunt deck.

I think it is a function of the width of the hide but that is just my opinion.

I just ordered a cav plate for my 4 man hide. It gets on plane good. bought in the hopes of the dog being able to use as a step to keep him off the prop in some situations. You guys are the experts. Should I send it back?

I would not put it on. The main reason I have one on my hide to for prop protection from the dog as well but from what these guys say the performance is bettwer without it. I should just mail my strut with the cav plate on it to you and you send your plain Jane one to me as a swap. You would then call me and want to swap back!
