Default Mini 23 electric start failure - help...

My mini 23 will not start using the electric start. The gear coming off the starter advances - it moves to the other gear that would crank the flywheel (I assume), and then just makes a humming noise - as if the bearing, or clutch, is fried. The motor starts normally with the pull start. It's, as if, the starter is unable to turn the gear to start the motor.

advise as to how I can fix? Should I take to a Briggs dealer, or is it relatively simple?
    Thanks

Sounds like the bendix gear isn't engaging. You should be able to see if the gear is engaging or not, but if you can't, you may have to pull the front shroud off & look. If it's still under warranty, bring it in. If not, it's easy to pull & fix yourself or have shop rebuild starter for you.

Check your connections I have see where corrosion can cause drag enough that it won't start other than that you might be able to take it down and have it rebuilt.
