My dog will dive down for a duck, but I got a feeling he'd look at me like I was stupid if I asked him to get a rock. ...but I've never seen a lab feel around like that...pretty cool. I did teach one to dive using colored rocks in clear water years ago. You can tell that yellow would spend all day in the water and even longer right there, feelin' around for rocks as long as you'd throw them. Nice video.

My 5 year old BLM will pick rocks off the bottom like it's his job. He never has felt around for em with his paws, though. He just dives and dives. You know what's the wierdest, though? You can throw a rock on the bottom of a ROCKY creek, and nine times out of ten he comes up with the very same rock you threw!!!! I guess he must just watch it go down. WTF??!!!

I used to have a German Shorthair that would dive for rocks . You could mark it and He would come up with the right rock all the time.As long as you handled it He could find it.............:017:

I guess these dogs can smell underwater. I would think some how they are picking up your scent on the object to be retrieved.

My old dog used to do that all the time. I dont know if you can teach a dog to do that I think it is just natural.

| That is correct.... It's sad how I know dogs can smell items underwater, but I've seen it with my own two eyes. My best friends older brother had a boat accident in the winter of 91 and they had to use a dog to find the boat/body , etc.... The police dog they brought could smell oils from the boat which gave them a good idea of where to find the body. They also had the dog lead them in the right direction from the boat to where the body was on the bottom of the lake.

Man, that's cool. You can't beat a good dog. Want's nothing more than to play and please his peep. That's cool to see them cooning around for the rock. WD
