Default IFW cataswampus Shaggy...

some may have seen this build but it is a knock off homemade shaggy blind made out of 3/4 EMT... just a few things I will do next year is adding a weather/wind blocker and belly bars... hunted out of a real shaggy and I must say the belly bars are a must...

if you have any ? just ask but I figure some guys season are almost over and they might want a prodject to get started on... this blind frame cost me about $65.00 then I just added the shaggy panels to it...

Now this was a mod I made after I hunted with it a few times it is a dog door and I have one on the bow and one on the stern so we can run two dogs at the same time.

Jake,

I see that coming out of the mount connected to the light bar you have an 8" or so pipe of larger diameter than the blind frame. Two cotter pins. I am thinking that you have this so that you can travel with the blind at the lower position (by pulling the top pin) and then hunt in the upper. If so, that is a GREAT IDEA, and one I think I just might have to copy.

Nice use of the caster bases for frame pivots!

Wherever I have a bolt through a pipe I put a wooden dowel ,that fits tight, about 4 in to help with any metal fatigue due to tightness of bolt. Just a thought.....

By the way , I got your PM and will be talking to you about the end of Jan.

thanks guys,

HH yeah I didn't want my blind to hang over the edge and the stock shaggy is about 6 in to short than what I wanted... I needed a blind to cover up my face... so to do that I needed to make this adjustment... its nice I set out the decoys and the wife sets up the blind... perfect combo... now we just need to get the cooker working in the boat so we can have a warm breakfast...lol...

Ditto the 6 inches too short part. Going to use your idea.

Regarding the cooker, I use a Coleman Guide Series stove but am going to get a Coleman propane skillet. No more frypans or stove...they're both combined into one device.

Question Re: IFW cataswampus Shaggy...

Question Guys , what are the demensions on a shaggy . I am mainly interested in the width . I believe they are 18 or so feet long but how high or wide are they , 4ft , 5ft or what . I need them to be at least 5ft because my "Tank" has a 93 in beam . I want mine to hang over a little . They are supposed to be weighted , aren't they .

Thanks Deadbird . I may have a problem with the 4 ft . I will be checking this on my Homemade blind . May just be a matter of how wide or tall I set the blind ...

Guess I should read all the info given

Jack I have seen a shaggy on a 52 in boat and it worked... really I don't like my shaggy material hanging over so now I just clamp it to the rail of the boat... but if the 4ft will not work you can get a 18 ft x 1 ft strips from mud buddy also so that way you can add it to the 4ft if need be... I took my extra and made roofs for the blind and also to help cover the motor...

Good Idea . I may just keep the opening wider to give me the lenght I need or make the top edge lower . Will be doing a lot of measuring as soon as the wind stops blowing...

well yanked the rear seat out and took the live well and put it as the driving pod... added belly bars to the blind and then added the weather blocker... also shorten the blind to expose the front deck so I should be good to go for the season...
didn't want to add hydro turf again so I picked up some foam mats from harbor freight for about 15.00 for the whole floor and front deck...

I like the belly bars . Got to add them to mine . Looks like the goretex will keep the shaggy dry when stored . Glad it works for You....

Still crazy at work ?

week one... down pooring rain for 8 hours... the shaggy material stayed dry when it was down... and the weather blocker kept the rain out of the boat...

week two... 30 MPH winds with temps in the mid 30's got the blind set up and kicked back on the floor of the boat with the wife before shooting light and the Goretex worked awsome to keep the wind out...

thank you Smilin Jack... I love my boat blind now...

Jake
