Default Hey Louisiana Hunters !!!!

You guys seeing any ducks yet?

I have been fishing the last 3 days where I duck hunt. I was on my lease in SE LA Friday afternoon and Saturday morning and saw hardly any ducks. On Sunday I was around the Pearl River WMA and saw no ducks.

Normally a large population of at least gray ducks are here by Halloween.

I sure hope they are coming down this week.

We've still got a little time. When do you open on the east side? We don't open on the west side til the 14th of November. Haven't been to the marsh in a few weeks but rode through my rice fields yesterday and saw nothing but 6 teal.

I got a couple calls this weekend from friends and some very mixed reports. There seems to be a few birds on the west side of the river (mostly Lafitte and up into Salvador), and I got a report of a decent number of birds in Carnaveron.

Youth hunt opens on Nov. 7th................. I plan to scout the lease this Sunday in the mud boat. If the ducks are not here by the 7th, they not going to be here by the 14th.

also herd the same thing but canarvon holds birds well in my opinion

with these cold fronts coming down i thought there would have been more birds here allready but i think they will make it

even if they dont im still going

Been at the camp in Dularge all weekend. Ponds look fantastic almost need to chew up some grass for a little open water. But same thing, no birds. Had a friend fish Lost Lake and he saw some birds sitting in the middle, thats usually greys.

Well we havent been expierenceing a lot of cold fronts up here so I think it may be tough down there. We had one day of migration on the 9th then its been dead since. I havent even hunted the last week (I am laid off so can go daily) because there are no birds around. Hopefully sat we are supposed to get some weather.

The northern states above us are very wet too with above average rainfall which is not helping us either.

Chasing trout and redfish around in Biloxi WMA this past weekend...saw some teal and a bunch of gadwall. Even saw a lone spec flying around. Never hunted the marsh, but seems like it'd be a lot of fun with the option to do some fishing.

I once ran from Perlington MS to Half Moon Island in my 1648 with a pro drive. It was calm there but on the way back it was way too scary and rough for this old man.

I'm up here in north east Kansas. We had good success 10-11 OCT in west Kansas killing greys, teal and a couple of pintails and mallards. Hunted Iowa last weekend with okay success. We saw lots of pintails up there. This past weekend was our opener and we did not even go because there are no ducks. The locals around here, Iowa and Nebraska said that the ducks have not arrived in mass yet. We had a decent push the first cold front beginnning of October which were the early migrators with teal, greys, and butt loads of smilin' mallards. We're hoping for a good cold front but nothing in the forecast to the weekend. Don't think that the majority of the ducks have begun to migrate.

yea it can kick up quick out there but thats why i have a life jacket

on a serious not though it can get really really bad out there in the blink of an eye because if your in the marsh you have know clue what its like in the big water but if it is to bad out there we will tow it across to be safe.

being safe is #1 when being out there for sure and is always #1 and a good GPS is a must have

man i cant wait 2 more weeks

I have never felt unsafe in my GT. It is a 19.5' long boat with high sides, however the run from the Chef to Bayou Biloxi is 16 miles of open water. I run it often in a 24' bay boat and sometimes when we come back it is rough as you know what.

Thanks for the report. Youth weekend opens this Saturday and I am taking my 7 year on his 1st official hunt shooting a 410..... I would be a happy dad if we could get even a spoonie to decoy so he can ground swat his 1st duck.

I have never been scared to cross but there was one time last year i was worried as all heck ..the blind on the boat hangs over a little on the front sides and the spray would hit it and it would deflect back inside well half way across the bildge pump takes a crap on me then i got worried ...well by the time we got to grand pass i was a little more than ankle deep in water standing in the boat so i just pulled the pug and kept on going

Wow, I took my son on his 1st official hunt using a shot gun for youth weekend yesterday. It's tough for me restraining from shooting taking a kid on a youth hunt with so many ducks flying. It was like waving crack in front of a crack addict. If it was opening day, we would have shot a 3 man limit easily. I had greys, teal, and widgeon decoying all morning. My 7 year old son shot about 30 rounds from his 410 single shot missing every duck whether it be on the water or in the sky, but he did shoot 6 coots (easier and dumber target). He had a blast and is begging to go back. We did a little fishing afterwards and caught 6 nice reds (22 to 25" range) by strictly sight casting. The water was high and crystal gin clear.

Ist offficial kill calls for blood on the face!
