Angry Fouled Spark Plug

Ahhhh, the beautiful pacific northwest. Went out yesterday morning, if you can call 12:30 AM "morning", to hunt the goose opener. Rained the night before and while starting my 29 vanguard had a nice backfire from some water in the carb. The motor didn't run right after that and had to make a 4 mile run at about 4 mph because the motor just bogged down after the backfire. I carry and extra fuel filter so I changed it but still didn't fix the problem. Got home, removed the spark plugs and found one completely bent with no gap. Replaced both plugs and it ran like a champ again. Difficult way to learn, ALWAYS carry extra plugs and a spark plug wrench.

Red face Re: Fouled Spark Plug

Did You check for a baffle broken . The bent plug is one of the signs for a blown muffler . Hope the engine spit the metal out if the muff did break or I believe it will happen again. Check and search for Broken Muff baffles on forum . There are a lot of warnings out there. You could mess up a valve. Good luck

Get it checked quickly. The piece of metal that damaged the plug can ruin the engine. See a Briggs dealer soonest. Have them call Briggs and the service center will get repair advice.

After replacing the plugs I fired up the engine and let in run for about 10 minutes without any problems. If there was a piece of metal in there wouldn't it have caused it to foul again?

Well fellas you guys saved my life. The muffler is shot. Took the motor in and luckily no damage but can't use the motor until I get a new exhaust. Thanks for the advice. Anyone have a stock exhaust they want to get rid of?
