Marsh master, Nice mess of birds and stack of sky carp. Did you get the sky carp in Pass a Loutre or did you get em in BB? I've been hunting down in Venice for twenty two plus years since I went down there at the age of 14. I also spent a week before Christmas hunting Pass a Loutre' the Delta, Batiste Collette and I can tell you the lack of birds is not because of the amount of hunters. Its the lack of food plain and simple. The East side took a real beating from the hurricanes and killed all of food. I have several personal friends who run duck hunting and fishing charters out of Venice. This is the worst year since anyone can remember since 89' or even after Katrina. The birds are not staying (except for pintail and the cans) long. They came in after those two cold fronts early but disappeared after about a week. We did pretty good hunting the Pass a Loutre area (our best hunts) but we had to run our Gator Trax's from the Marina which is a 40 mile round trip after I blew my lower unit in my Reno. Anyway, we ran all over the area through the entire area and the only places holding any real birds were Pass a Loutre, South Pass and Joseph's Bayou. Talked to the Delta Refuge Manager and he told us this is the lowest number of birds in a long time. The Venice Area will rebound next year as long as we get no hurricanes this year.

I use to hunt Venice a lot, but I rarely go to Venice anymore..... I have found that Biloxi WMA is better.... Only problem with Biloxi is there are not enough hunters to keep the birds moving.

yea but when they have alot of fishermen out there they will get the birds moving....pluse you have to hunt where the birds want to be even though you jump birds out of the area that doent mean they are coming back out there you have to watch all kinds of things manley the wind and the tide when the water is high they will be in the marsh when the water is low they will be in the ponds ,,,but this year biloxi has been nice but it also had its ups and downs like every where here in the south

Took a couple of GA boys with me to Venice. Also remembered why I bought the full floatation model. 4 ft waves at Main Pass and the River with a 30 knot North East Wind.
