I heard from a gentleman that he has witnessed Mobil One oil soaking completely through a Briggs block. It sounded crazy to me, but has anyone else heard of certain oils soaking through aluminum castings? WD

We have run Mobil 1 in all the Hypers we have owned or serviced. Haven't seen that "phenomenon" yet. Was he pulling your leg? |

I've heard of some oil additives that will weaken certain types of gasket material, but never heard of any type of liquid that could bleed thru aluminum.

If it was leaking through the engine block there had to be a casting flaw.

I have used it since break in four years ago, no problem. I did have a comment from my high performance cam builder. He does not recommend any synthetic oils with high profile cams! He claims he sees more wear than with a high quality mineral based racing oil. I don't have my modded motor on the water yet, so I can't confirm his claim, just passing it along.
