Uncle used boat and left motor cover off and didnt clean after. Anyways motor has surface rust and saltwater stains from being in Grand Isle. Whats the best way to clean it up? Is a wire brush my only option? Thx

I've had good success with steel wool.
i recently got some "LPSv2" rust and corrosion prevention spray. not sure how well itll work on existing oxidation but it says safe on paint motors plastics and electrical connections too its a blue-green can with red letters, mine said 50th anniversary about $10 from local Do It Best hardware store

Give your uncle some steel wool, a couple small wire brushes, and a picture of a new motor. Tell him when your's looks like the picture he can stop.
hahaha I would but the guys done so much for me id rather just do it myself then yell at him. I guess its like most things in life and not an easy fix. Ill grab some steel wool, wire brushes, and a six pack. Thanks for the replies
