Excel measures form the tip of the boat to the end of the hunt deck so with an 1851 you have an 18' boat.

Understood.
Therefore, if I want to ensure that I get a good 18 feet of space inside a Excel SW boat... I would need to get a 19' Excel boat with huntdeck?

Yes you would need a 19' boat if you want 18' inside.

Yup, same problem here. Order an 18' was never told that the inside was 17' and that if I wanted a 18' I should have ordered a 19'. I wanted to see one before I ordered mine but none of the Excel Dealers in my area had any to look at. To me it is like false advertising! You order an 18' when you get it, they say surprise it's yours!
yes i agree they measure from tip to tip, but it would be nice to know or you should be told upfront that you are loosing a foot of inside space.
