| Sunday, 1/13/08 - We managed to take a fairly quick 2 man limit. We had plenty of teal flying early so we didn't wait for the big ducks to fly. Aren't teal the best duck to eat anyways? I am going to try deep frying the boneless breasts tonight when I fry some trout. We did have a pair of pintail come in and we dropped the Bull Sprig which was a nice addition to our bag. 2 man blind = 12 ducks (8 gw teal, 1 bw teal, 1 bull sprig, 1 mottled duck, 1 gray duck)

| 2007/2008 Duck Season Recap! Since I don't plan to hunt this weekend in the East Zone I decided to tally up my hunting log for this year. It was one of my best years over the last decade when comparing hunter success per effort. My blind shot 171 ducks out of 17 hunts (35 hunters) which equals 10 ducks average per trip or better yet, 4.89 ducks per hunter per effort which is the better way to measure my success since my blind will vary from 1 man to 4 man blinds. We limited out 9 times out of the 17 hunts with many close to the limit hunts and no skunks for the year, however I did have one hunt where we only shot 1 grey duck. Of the 171 ducks bagged, 97 were grey ducks equating to 57% and 56 were green wing teal equating to 33%. Wow, Greys and GW teal made up 90% of our bag. Thank goodness for these bread and butter ducks. This is the first year I did not shoot a mallard. I only saw one pair the entire season, however I did see more pintail than normal. Overall it was a great a year and the absolute best part was that my 5 year old boy made his first duck hunt with his BB Gun this year with me. He loved going so much he ended up going on 11 of my 17 hunts this year. Teaching a child to enjoy this sport brings a whole new meaning to duck hunting! What a great year! Until next year, it's time to get ready for some fishing and maybe a snipe hunt or two while I wait for the water to warm up a bit for the fishing.

Hunted on a friends lease in Venice on the last weekend (18th & 20th). It's funny we have to hunt the tide. After the tide came up about 10 am the birds wanted to get into the cove we were hunting and it was like a Whistling Wings video. Got a mixed bag of Canvas Back, Wigeon, Gadwall and teal. Great way to finish the season. Thanks to everyone on the forum for the advice about these awesome boats and motors. Now to get on with the fishing. Can't wait to try Coot's electric chicken spinner bait. ![]() ![]() ![]() CJ |
