Start them young. This is our future. My first hunt was along the shores of Lake Erie at age 4. I treasure those early morning memories with my dad. Now more than 40 years later with him in his mid eighties he no longer carries a shotgun. We did hunt together though last week. Three generations in one boat for the first time as my 5 year old joined us. Lots to be thankful for.

This is a WHOLE NEW EXPERIENCE for me and I AM LOVING IT! My 5 year old boy has came with me on my last three hunts and he is begging for more. I can't wait till my 2 year is old enough to come too!

You got to get creative with the little ones. He was getting cold today until I convinced him to get under the front deck. Then he thought thas was cool and it was like camping out. Here is a pic of him taking a breakfast break under the front deck.

That looks like too much fun!

When I got home today my little one got into my blind bag and discovered my call lanyard and thought it was a bead, until I showed her how to blow the calls and I was some proud cause it looks like she is a natural.......but after 4 hours of walking around blowing the calls, mom wasnt thinking the same thing.

Coot, you are going to create so many memories with your kids in the field. I cannot believe my two boys are already 16 and 19.

Take lots of pics and encourage them to keep a hunting journal. My older son has about 25 typed pages of family hunting trips beginning when he was eleven.

I personally keep a hunting journal and insert the digital images into this journal and then print it on a color printer at the end of each year and bind it. It makes a nice keeps sake. I will encourage my children to keep a journal too once they can start writing and reading.
