Default 1750 Gator Trax Hunt Deck with 35 Sport

Browning and I hunted and fished all weekend in our new rigs. We were more than pleased by their performance, the room they provided and how they hauled the mail. We were hunting Louisiana marsh and had about a 10-11 mile run one way. Some was in open water and about half was in tight marsh. The boats turned on a dime of course and handled the deep and shallow water like no other.

The most impressive thing was how we handled 3 guys, fishing tackle, hunting gear, 120 qt ice chest full of fish and ice, 54 qt ice chest full of drinks and ice, 8 gallons of gas, trolling motor, 2 batteries, decoys, guns and whatever else we had in the boats. We both ran between 23-25 MPH with this load. His motor does not have a carb and mine does.

Once again the Gt and MB combo worked very well and we are both extremely happy with the boat and motor we run and represent.

Here are a few pics from the weekend. The hunting was VERY slow compared to last year but we did manage a few birds.

Thanks again Coot and Gary..........Sorry we did not see you guys much. Wish we had all stayed together. We were just beat every day and stayed out real late saturday so we just hunted and slept for the most part.

BTW, my dad was hard on the teal, he just did not miss.........However, the GA boy put it on him when it came to the fishing pole. Threw the magic all weekend and they chewed it up!!!

Sounds like the whole trip was a true testament to the versatility and workhorse nature of the 1750 Hunt Deck/35 Combo. I certainly don't disparage anyone's use of a 45, 4000, 6000 or whatever motor upgrades, but 10-11 mile runs with those loads in THAT boat apparently is a proven winner! You didn't specifically mention the versatility of the open floor plan, but I suspect that it was most beneficial on this trip......"Keepin' it open" as I think I've heard you say a time or two! Cajun and Browning......thanks for your solid advice and for leading me in the direction of getting the same setup!

What he said.

Here are some real numbers on the 1750 huntdeck I'm running if anyone is curious about performance.
For this trip it was:
1750 HD mudbuddy edition (flotation)
open hull
Dual coolers midship (one full of ice and drinks, the other full of gear)
full floors
drivers box
extended deck
bow rails
trolling motor
bow lights
turf in whole boat
spud poles (in the boat)
8 gallons gas (gas tank bracket)
two tackle bags (about 12 lbs each)
120qt cooler (full of ice, 12 teal, 10 redfish (about 18-26"), 4 trout, 1 flounder)
three guys (me 185, Dad 225, brother 195)
six rods
three guns in cases
one homemade spinning wing decoy
one decoy bag with 3 doz decoys
camera bag
cranking battery in back
trolling motor battery under front deck with gastank
misc gear in drivers box (hardhat light, first aide, epirb, life vests (3), boat cushion, blah, blah, blah.
Stock 35 sport with K&N filter

We ran deep water 22-23 mph all day long with no problem.

These boats definitely like the weight to the back. It's deceiving in a huntdeck because the back isn't where you are used to it being. Everything in the boat tends to be more forward than you think. We had both guys sitting on the midship coolers (which aren't really midship on a huntdeck) and it didn't run nearly as good. I put the 120qt cooler sideways just in front of the drivers box and let both guys sit on it and the boat ran a lot better. Not so much a speed issue, but the bow was a lot higher so the ride was a lot drier.

Overall, I was extremely pleased with the combination. I'll post up some pics when I get them downloaded.

open is the only way to roll..........If you want storage use the soft storage or ice chests if you can get away with it so you can take the stuff in and out!!

all weekend we all talked about how good the boats ran, looked and held up. I did get in some nasty mud a few times and had no problems. The tide was LOW at times in the broken marsh where we were fishing and hunting. Even had to get out of the boat one time in the middle of the marsh to turn the nose around, was pinned in a small cut trying to chase a duck down in NOOOOOOOO water. Once we got the nose around we got right out with a little motor work. Of course we were covered in mud from head to toe...........lol

The other thing Browning and I disucssed was the Hydroturf...........Will NEVER be without it............we dropped reds in the middle of the boat all day long and it was never slick etc like alum. Also was quieter and cooler.............

Iamonia,

I like my green non-camo painted boat, but if you really insist on painting your boat camo, then I have a suggestion on what pattern and color you should use.

Yea it was in SC, but I don't know who owns the boat now. I did get a good laugh out of it at the Poker run!!!!! The ex-owner is on this forum, he has also made that boat into a tiki hut boat!!

actually that would be when my dad has 2 teal come at us from his side and he says NOTHING!! I see his reach for the safety and stand up and I do the same, he dropped the trailing bird and i dropped the lead bird, his bird traveled a little ways and we had to go in some junk to get it cause the tide had fallen alot..........will not hunt again there without a pirogue!! it was a pain!!

if chapman would ever call me back i would have had a pirogue but oh well...........

I will not hunt out there again without my dog. We lost too many teal in the tall grass and decided quickly to only shoot teal over the water that would fall dead in the water.

I am picking up a used Chapman for $150 this week. I will sell it to you for $300 if you want or I will lease it to you for $200 per season.

Since Katrina, these pirogues are in high demand and hard to come by!

Why not get a Gator Trax one? They are only about 20 lbs heavier, but they will last you 20 times longer!

Have ya'll looked at pawpaws pirogues? The one the duck commander hunts out of. They look pretty nice and stable. I'm thinking about buying me one but my question is how are they in swift water?

Yeah they look pretty cool in the video on www.pawpawspirogues.com .
But I have never been in one. How well do pirogues do in swift shallow water?

if u are not familiar with pirogues........they will flip on a dime until u get used to operating them.

Yeah I got a canoe and a kayak. The place we hunt is so shallow that we have to get out of either and drag the boat then get back in and paddle. So i'm thinking a pirogue would be better for shallow water but not sure about swift water.
