Default 16' Rogue

Guys

I was wondering about the 16' Rogue with a huntdeck. Curious to see what you guys like about it ie the profile/width. Anyone hunting out of it? I would imagine that stability is an issue, however i have a buddy that always hunts out of a geehnoe and this might be the right profile for him to switch over to.

I was also curious as to the max HP you could put on it. Anyone tried the new mini 35 on it. Is there a mini 45 yet?

One of our fellow hunters here, in the Miami area, bougth one 16' X 38" GT with huntdeck.
He powered his boat with a HD 35 as he preferred to be some sort over powered.
We have tested this boat in most of the conditions you will find running the marsh, shallows and deep waters.
Has a lot of stability and performs extremely well in all those mentioned before.
It is a boat designed for two hunters and all the necessary gear.
There are some posts, I believe short videos in relation to this specific boat.
I suggest you to contact Kman, the builder @ Gatortrax as he can give you a whole lot of information.
Just check the posts related to this boat and you will find answers for your questions, or at least some of the most important ones.
I hope my reply might help you.

This should give you an idea of the 16X38 Rogue with a 35/carb kit.

A 45 mini can be strapped to the mini frame.

What terrain are you running. The mini is not for everyone. At least not the 35/45 version.

I might be incorrectly labeling it "mini" but i thought the new mini had a longer shaft, beneficial to those running lots of grass, and mix sand/swamp bottoms, useful for longer reaches to the "pockets" of water.

I run in Florida, mostly the vegitation thick rivers, and salt marshes.

We are just looking between the super sport with a huntdeck vs a long sleek rogue type boat. I am leaning towards the ss with a 45?

mini is for u, it is made for soupy mud and or thick vegetation

it has a 32 inch drive and is about 40 lbs lighter than a sport

i assume u mostly run protected water?

If this is the case, Cajun is 100% right.
No matter what, keep doing your homework.
It will pay off.

Mostly protected water, but every once and a while we like to cross the lagoon, that can get pretty nasty.

That is why i am wondering long skinng rogue vs super sport. We have a dog, and there is always 2 people, often 3. I was kind of thinking stacking 3 seats in a row for the rogue down the middle, and doing some kind of have height pop up blind, for a low profile platform.

The other senario is getting the super sport and working it like a gator hide layout.

Either way, minimum of a 35 horse but i would like the 45 if they make it in the mini configuration.

I think 3 people & dog would be pushing it in a rogue. You would be extremely crowded. I have a 1544 w/huntdeck in stock you are welcome to come and drive. You could get a feel for how skinny the 44 is.

That is what I was thinking as well, but i asked because the rogue i saw with a 35 on it had 2 seats in front of the driver, seemed to look okay from the view.

Bottom line is I want a super go fast light boat, that i can stash easy, hunting out of a boat has not seemed feasible unless i went the gator hide style route. Will a super sport run better than a the rogue speed wise?

jp, the rogue is a good 1 or 2 person boat. Definitely not 3 plus a dog. In fact, given your typical load I think you should be looking at a 50" bottom. With heavy loads the wider boat has better displacement, stays on top of the water more effectively, and minimizes drag.

My GT 1750 will outrun a comparable 1744 with a heavy load (2-3 people + gear). The simple fact is that the narrow boats run quick light but load them down and they can't keep up.

Makes complete sense in my mind. What is your guys take on the 15 in sides vs the higher 18 inch sides? There is a part of me that likes the low profile look, but i do not know why? Any performance differences?

Again, based on my very informative conversations with Kent, he was pretty confident that the super sport with a hunt deck would be one if not the fastest running boat, that is assuming comparable horsepower/loads etc.

I think it pretty much depends on where you are using it. My boat has 18" sides and it seems low enough. But, I use it in alot of Big water.

The asnwer to speed is NOT a light boat. That has been proven time and time again over the years. It is a boat that can carry the load you want to carry efficiently.

The SS will do that no problem and still be as light as you can get a 50" bottom boat.

The only issue then would be side height. You will have to answer that one based on where you hunt MOST of the time, big water or protected water?
